Get Ready for the First Round of Matches on March 18th, 2024
The road to FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar officially begins in March 2024, as the CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football) qualifiers get under way. A total of 32 nations from the region will battle for three remaining spots in the prestigious tournament, alongside co-hosts Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The qualifiers will be divided into two rounds, with the first round featuring six groups of five teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round, where they will join the top five nations from the FIFA rankings. These 12 teams will then compete in an Octagonal round-robin format, with the top three finishers qualifying for the World Cup.
The draw for the qualifying groups will take place at CONCACAF headquarters in Miami, Florida, on September 4th, 2023. The first round matches will be played between March 18th and June 2nd, 2024, while the Octagonal round will be played from September 2nd, 2024, to February 1st, 2026.
With so many nations competing for a limited number of spots, the CONCACAF qualifiers promise to be a fiercely competitive and exciting affair. Fans can expect plenty of drama, upsets, and thrilling matches as the teams vie for a place in the world's biggest sporting event.
